PACERS look good, but still no naming sponsor.Latrobe City Pacers 2005 ABA season commences this weekend with two games at Frankston against Diamond Valley and Sandringham. By Gippsland Latrobe Basketball Inc. - 9th March 2005 - Back to News The games replace the traditional pre-season tournament and the Pacers will be hoping for a similar weekend to that last year where they made the pre-season final.
President David Roberts said the team is looking fantastic and supporters should see another leap forward in the teams on court performance this year.
"We had 19 players at training last night with at least 5 absent. This ensures a strong squad for both Energy and the Pacers and will minimize the pressure placed on some players to play in both teams as they did last year" Roberts said.
"Stuart Leech will be a big asset as he returns to the team after about 5 years. He will join Paul Clough in the big man department and ensure some additional rebounds an inside scoring for the team" he continued.
"Sam Hurren is back and looking good as is Duncan Brooks and Mark Van Dyk. We also have the young guns back with Nick Sedley, Brendan Joyce, and Jordan Canavon".
"Vashon is ofcourse back he starred in the recent AND1 exhibition matches played around Australia including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth and attracting over 9000 people at each venue.
"Weaver was in the starting 5, top scoring in many of the games and was dubbed Sir Hop-a-lot"
"In addition, we are in the final process of signing a second import and have a slim hope he may be available for this weekend".
"All is looking great at this stage, while we still have no naming sponsor, we have had a number of sponsors come forward and support the Club, including the Bendigo Bank who will sponsor a Junior round robin competition"
The Pacers first home game is at Moe on the 19th of March against a very impressive Dandenong Rangers. Tip off will be at 8pm.
