By Wellington Shire Council - 25th July 2005 - Back to News

The Council appreciates the hard work these groups invest in initiatives and programs that support the wellbeing of communities across the Shire.

Last year 37 groups and organisations received funding of more than $80,000 under the grants scheme, which is run annually by Wellington Shire Council.

There are two categories of funding offered:

  • Community Programs – to provide assistance to community groups for a broad range of community development programs and activities.
  • Festivals & Events – to support the development and presentation of quality festivals and special events in Wellington Shire which celebrate community achievement

Funding guidelines and application forms are available at the Council’s Shire Service Centres in Sale and Yarram, as well as from its libraries across the Shire, its OA Ruff Sport Stadium and the Lex Glover Swimming Complex. In addition details are on the Council’s website www.wellington.vic.gov.au

Wellington Shire Council will also be running a series of community information sessions, offering important advice to applicants on how to maximise the effectiveness of their grant submissions. The dates, venues and times are:

Monday 1st August Sale (Port of Sale Civic Centre 7.00pm

70 Foster Street)

Tuesday 2nd August Maffra (Memorial Hall Supper Room) 7.00pm

Monday 8th August Yarram (Yarram District Health Services 7.00pm

Multipurpose Room)

To book a place please contact Council’s Lisa Lyndon on 5142 3326.

The closing date for applications is Tuesday 30th August at 5.00pm. A final decision on the successful grant applications will be made by the Council at its November meeting and the grants will be formally presented in December.

Wellington’s Mayor Peter Gault said: "We greatly appreciate the hard work and invaluable contribution that not-for-profit community groups and organisations make to life in Wellington, and we are keen to help out wherever we can.

"We would encourage any groups who think they may be eligible for a grant to apply, and also to attend one of the workshops to ensure they get the most from their application and maximise their chance of success."
