Tourism Operators Can Nominate For Awards

East Gippsland Shire Council is encouraging local tourism business operators to nominate for the East Gippsland Tourism Awards and the Victorian Tourism Awards.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 16th April 2004 - Back to News

A seminar explaining the details of the awards will be held next Tuesday, 20 April at Council’s Palmers Road building from 1.00pm – 3.30pm. The seminar will be presented by Angela Drayton, from the Tourism Awards Department at Tourism Victoria. Entry is free.

"I am encouraging tourism operators to attend this seminar to gain more knowledge on the awards," said Shire Tourism / Business Coordinator, Stephen Kleinitz.

"If they are not interested in entering the awards this year, then I still encourage businesses to attend and see what‘s involved and understand the benefits they might gain by entering in the future.

"The seminars run for two-and-a-half hours and include updated information about the rules and questions for award entrants, advice on how the awards process can help other aspects of your business, tips from judges and past entrants on making the most of your submission, and design suggestions to ensure your entry looks good.

"Come along – it’s time well spent, whether you only want to have a look at what the awards are about, or give your entry in the Tourism Awards your best shot - it’s time well invested.

"The East Gippsland awards are a stepping stone to the statewide and national awards, which provides great exposure to your business, and they are a rewarding way of undertaking business development," Stephen said.

There are many categories, ranging from Tourist Attraction, Festivals and Events, Tourism Retailing and a number of different Accommodation categories.

Entries for the East Gippsland Tourism Awards open on 19 April and close late July. For further information contact the East Gippsland Shire Tourism / Business Support Unit on 5153 9500.
