Gippsland Community Leadership Program applications for 2023 now open

Applications for the 2023 Gippsland Community Leadership Program (GCLP) are now open.

The Committee for Gippsland CEO Tony Cantwell said he was pleased to announce recruitment for 2023 GCLP had begun to coincide with the inclusion of a new scholarship to support young people affected by the 2019/20 East Gippsland bushfires. "In 2022 we celebrated 26 years of delivering the Gippsland Community Leadership Program in developing leadership from across the region and helping strengthen our communities and ensure Gippsland has a vibrant future," he said.

The GCLP experience is one of self-growth via reflective, collaborative and hands-on participation, includes personal and professional milestones with group work, public speaking, and observational learning

Developing the leadership skills

Mr Cantwell said, "GCLP is the longest running regional leadership program in Australia, providing participants with an overview of the challenges and opportunities for Gippsland while developing the leadership skills and attributes of participants to inspire participation in their local school or sporting club committee to local government and advocacy."

Mr Cantwell said the East Gippsland Community Foundation (EGCF) is sponsoring two places in next year's program joining C4G's long list of organisations giving back to Gippsland communities.

Accessible to a diverse Gippsland

Mr Cantwell also said, "In 2023 we are pleased to be able to offer two young people affected by bushfires in East Gippsland with a place in next year's program, which will complement our existing scholarships."

"Our scholarships range from diversity and youth to health and community involvement, environment, indigenous and small business. These scholarships help make the program accessible to a diverse Gippsland," he said.

Supporting young people

EGCF Executive Officer Michelle Dowsett said the Foundation was committed to supporting bushfire affected communities, developing local leaders, and supporting young people. "We are thrilled to be supporting our young people to participate in GCLP. We have seen first-hand the benefits GCLP can bring at an individual and community level," she said.

"Some of the community projects of past GCLP years have supported East Gippsland's fire affected areas directly and in meaningful ways. GCLP is a unique platform for the development and growth of Gippsland's existing and emerging leaders, and we are proud to be a part of it." Ms Dowsett said.
