Wonthaggi Croquet Club gets new $1.78M pavilion via state government Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program
Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve had another exciting sporting addition confirmed, after Bass Coast Shire Council granted the contract for the construction of a new sports pavilion to an award-winning Wonthaggi-based builder.
After evaluation by a council panel, TS Constructions Pty Ltd - crowned 2022 Regional Commercial Builder of the Year by Master Builders Victoria - have successfully been granted the $661,500 contract to build the new Wonthaggi Croquet Club Pavillion. Wonthaggi Croquet Club's new pavilion is to be funded through a $1.78 million grant from the state government's Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program, which also partially funded a new croquet pavilion in Cowes as well as the Wonthaggi tennis pavilion.
Wonthaggi's new croquet pavilion will feature new accessible amenities, a multi-purpose social space, toilets, shower, internal storage, kitchenette, viewing balcony and storage shed
Croquet Club upgrade project
The Wonthaggi project is possible thanks to $459,000 from the state government grant, plus a contribution of $25,000 from Wonthaggi Croquet Club. Council's Capital Works Program will provide the remaining $252,212 to support delivery.
"The Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve is fast becoming a leading regional sporting hub, due to the influx of improvement works that have been undertaken as a result of the Victorian government's generous stimulus funding," said Bass Coast Shire Council Mayor, Cr. Michael Whelan.
"Sport is a major source of community activity, health, and connection in Wonthaggi. By continuing to invest in the Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve, we are providing Bass Coast's growing population with access to the high-quality community sporting facilities they need - from AFL and netball, to cricket, soccer, tennis, croquet and more." Cr Whelan said.
Project completion by mid - 2023
Cr Whelan added, "The framing of the new tennis club has been completed, and the slab for the new soccer pavilion is imminent, with both projects due for completion by mid-2023. This latest work announcement is evidence of Council's continued commitment to the Wonthaggi Activity Centre Plan."
Construction of the croquet pavilion on Korumburra - Wonthaggi Road will commence in early January 2023 and is anticipated to be completed in August 2023.
