Baw Baw Shire Council invites the community to shape draft Economic Development and Visitor Economy Strategy 2026-2030 by 27 March 2026

Council seeks community feedback on its draft 2026-2030 Economic Development and Visitor Economy Strategy, outlining five focus areas to strengthen business, tourism, workforce skills, infrastructure and sustainable regional growth.

Council is welcoming community and industry feedback on a proposed strategy focused on growing the local economy and tourism sector over the next four years and beyond. The draft Economic Development and Visitor Economy Strategy 2026-2030 proposes a coordinated plan to strengthen the local economy, support small businesses, attract investment, create new jobs and position our community as a leading destination to live, work, visit, and do business.

Review the Draft Economic Development and Visitor Economy Strategy and complete the survey before consultation closes 5pm Friday 27 March 2026

Economic strategy consultation

The draft strategy provides a framework for strategic planning and decision making that balances the needs of the community, local businesses and the environment, ensuring economic growth and prosperity that benefits the entire community. The draft strategy proposes five key focus areas:

• Diversify and strengthen the local economy
• Develop regional workforce and skills capacity
• Plan for sustainable growth and infrastructure
• Strengthen the visitor economy and tourism infrastructure
• Champion sustainability and economic resilience

A four-week consultation period is now open, with feedback being accepted until Friday 27 March 2026.

Economic future strategy

Baw Baw Shire Mayor Cr Kate Wilson said a prosperous and resilient local economy was at the heart of the proposed strategy. "In Baw Baw Shire we’re uniquely positioned in a growth corridor close to Melbourne, but with our own strong regional identity. Agriculture and tourism has long been the backbone of our economy, but as we continue to grow we are seeing more opportunities to bring new businesses, jobs and training opportunities to the region", said Cr Wilson.

"Our proposed strategy has a clear focus on building a strong and sustainable future for our community.
"We want to be a vibrant, resilient and competitive place to live, work, visit and invest in without compromising our regional character, heart and soul," she added.

"We encourage residents, the local small business community and industry partners to review the proposed strategy and provide feedback. We want to collaborate with our community and experts to ensure this strategy aligns with everyone’s vision for a strong economic future," concluded Cr Wilson.
