Community grants program

There are two funding streams as part of the Community Grants Program - Community Projects and Minor Capital Work. Funding up to $5000 is available to support the delivery of community Projects including events, programs, environmental initiatives, and the purchase of equipment. Funding up to $10,000 is also available with an applicant cash contribution of 25 per cent of the total grant amount as part of Minor Capital Work on non-privately owned or rented properties.

Minor Capital Work could include netting behind goal posts, goal post installation, fencing, lighting upgrades, playing surface upgrades, kitchen upgrades, electronic scoreboards, painting a hall, and public seating. Minor Capital Work opens for Expressions of Interest on the first Monday in May each year. Community Projects has two rounds available each year opening in February and July.

Community grants update

Baw Baw Shire Mayor Councillor Kate Wilson said many requests Council received during the last Budget process would have met the criteria for a Community Grant. "In 2024-2025, our Community Grants Program funded $297,281 to support 71 Community projects and works within the Shire. We’re proud of the great work being led by our community, which is why this year we are encouraging the community to get in early and chat to our team about your project."

"This process also provides potential applicants with guidance on what to include in their application and clarity about any supporting documents needed to reduce the likelihood of applications being incomplete or ineligible for assessment," said Cr Wilson. Council’s next Community Grants Program application opening dates are:

  • Minor Capital Work expressions of interest open at 9am on Monday 4 May 2026 and close at midday on Friday 29 May 2026
  • Round 1 for Community Projects open at 9am on Monday 6 July 2026 and close at - midday on Friday 31 July 2026
  • Round 2 for Community Projects open at 9am on the first Monday in February 2027
