Darren Chester welcomes $6.2M Traralgon Recreation Reserve redevelopment with upgraded facilities for Latrobe Valley sports clubsDarren Chester welcomed the $6.2 million Traralgon Recreation Reserve redevelopment, providing modern changerooms and upgraded facilities through joint funding to support Latrobe Valley sports and long-term community participation. By news@gippsland - 19th September 2025 - Back to News Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has welcomed progress on the $6.2 million redevelopment of the Traralgon Recreation Reserve, with new changerooms and off-field facilities under construction for players and officials.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has welcomed progress on the redevelopment of the Traralgon Recreation Reserve Latrobe Valley investmentThe project, managed by Latrobe City Council and delivered by local firm Langden Constructions, has been supported through joint funding from the Council and the Australian government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCIP). Mr Chester said the redevelopment was an important investment in Latrobe Valley sport and community life. "The old changerooms were outdated and flood-prone, and this redevelopment will deliver modern, elevated facilities that will better serve junior and senior sportspeople for decades to come. This is going to be a terrific addition to local sporting infrastructure, supporting participation, volunteers, and families right across the community," he said. Local projects deliveredMr Chester highlighted the success of the LRCIP, which was introduced by the former Coalition government to provide every council across Australia with funding for priority local projects. "The Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program has been hugely successful across our region, delivering practical improvements in towns and cities throughout Gippsland," "Unfortunately, the Albanese government has cut the program, which means this will be one of the last projects funded under the scheme. It's disappointing, because this program has made a real difference in communities like Traralgon," Mr Chester said. Mr Chester praised the efforts of Latrobe City Council, Langden Constructions, and local sporting clubs for working together to deliver a facility that will strengthen the region's sporting and social fabric. "When this project is complete, it will be a legacy for the Latrobe Valley community and a great example of all levels of government and local contractors working together to deliver outcomes that matter," Mr Chester said.
