Bonnie Marion Martin brings Scotland to LatrobeScotland’s greatest export, Marion Martin, will perform ‘Flower of Scotland’, a variety of ballads and songs from her homeland, at Kernot Hall on Tuesday 22 June. By Latrobe Shire Council - 16th June 2004 - Back to News Marion Martin is a highly acclaimed performer who has had a prolific career as a performing artist in Australia and overseas. Since her first album, ‘Songs of Bonnie Scotland’, was released 25 years ago Marion Martin has consistently kept Scottish music alive in Australia and has performed with the best musicians in the country.
Latrobe City’s Box Office and Program Coordinator, Kathleen Roberts, said that every time Marion Martin takes the stage she casts a spell over her audience and enchants them in a captivating performance.
"Marion’s interpretation of classic Scottish ballads is hauntingly beautiful and spellbinding. Her performance always enthrals the audience, regardless of their age and background, and her charming and playful personality always shines through, making her one of Australia’s most talented and successful entertainers," Ms Roberts said.
"Marion is a descendant of the Campells of Argyll and she first took the stage in her native town of Glasgow when she was four years of age. From then on there was no stopping Marion. She was discovered by the record company EMI after she moved to Australia, and since then she has taken the nation, and the world, by storm. Marion has sung for the Pope and for royalty, and she has performed with symphony orchestras and military bands at all of the major venues in Australia," Ms Roberts added.
This year, Marion Martin is celebrating the Silver Anniversary of the release her first album, which is still in demand twenty five years later. Ms Roberts said that Marion can attribute her success to her amazing vocal talent and her ability to feel what she is singing.
"Marion has amazing vocal versatility. She can create the hauntingly low and soft rumbling notes of many Scottish ballads, and then swiftly move into other jolly and playful songs from her homeland. However, it is Marion’s ability to feel what she is singing, to inject emotion into her performance, that sets her apart from other performers," Ms Roberts concluded.
Marion Martin will perform ‘Flower of Scotland’ at Kernot Hall, Morwell at 11am on Tuesday 22 June. For bookings contact Latrobe City’s Box Office, telephone 5176 3559.
