More Land Released In Moe And Traralgon

A further amendment to the Latrobe Planning Scheme allowing the potential for an additional 3000 new housing lots to counter the shortage of residential land across Latrobe City has been approved by the Minister for Planning.

By Latrobe City - 10th May 2011 - Back to News

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said that Amendment C56 will rezone a further 262 hectares of land to a residential zone in Moe and Traralgon.

"In effect, this will provide an approximate six years of additional residential land supply in Moe and approximately ten years in Traralgon.

The rezoning will be of huge benefit for the local community, offering a greater diversity of housing choice, more affordable housing opportunities and an increase in support for the construction industry.

"This announcement is in addition to the earlier land release in February when the Minister for Planning approved amendment C47 that rezoned more than 300 hectares of land to residential in Moe, Newborough, Traralgon, Morwell and Churchill," Cr White said.

"The Minister has acknowledged the need for immediate action in relation to Latrobe City’s residential land shortage. This is a great outcome and will ensure the sustainable growth and prosperity of Latrobe City can be accommodated.

"We can now work with the community and development industry to prepare development plans to ensure future residential growth areas offer the highest level of amenity and infrastructure provision for future residents," Cr White concluded.

The Department of Planning and Community Development (DPCD) have confirmed that the exhibition process associated with Amendment C58 - the final part of the proposed Ministerial amendment package - has now commenced.

Anyone interested in making a submission is advised that submissions will be received by the DPCD until Friday 27 May 2011.

Exhibition documents associated with Amendment C58 can be viewed at all Latrobe City Council service centres during business hours.
