Residents to have say on Port Albert Drainage and Tidal Protection Study

Port Albert residents are being encouraged to have their say on the Port Albert Drainage and Tidal Protection Study.

By Wellington Shire Council - 7th March 2006 - Back to News

All Port Albert ratepayers will be receiving a letter during March explaining the purpose of the Study.

The aim of the study is to provide viable options in response to drainage and tidal surge issues in Port Albert.

The letter will include a questionnaire which ratepayers are asked to complete and return to consultants SMEC Australia. SMEC have been engaged by Wellington Shire Council to undertake the drainage and protection study, and obtain the views of the community in relation to current problems and potential works to help protect the town.

"Residents have a wealth of local knowledge on this issue and I am pleased that the consultants are actively seeking this information at the start of the study," said Cr Malcolm Hole, Wellington Shire Council Mayor.

"The final result will be all the better for the use of local knowledge.

"I encourage residents to respond to the questionnaire and participate in meetings with the consultants," said Cr Hole.

Port Albert residents will also see some work associated with the study occurring on the ground. Borehole drilling at four locations within the town to help monitor the groundwater fluctuations will occur during March.

Ratepayers in Port Albert who have not received a letter by the end of March are asked to contact Mark Vitlin at Wellington Shire Council on 1300 366 244.
