Decision On New Latrobe Performing Arts And Convention Centre DeferredLatrobe City Council deferred a decision on the location of the Performing Arts and Convention Centre at Tuesday night’s council meeting until opportunities for collaboration with Monash University Gippsland are thoroughly investigated. By Latrobe City Council - 14th April 2010 - Back to News Latrobe City mayor, Cr Kellie O’Callaghan, said a report outlining the results of the investigation will be presented to council prior to any decision over a new performing arts and convention centre being made.
Professor Helen Bartlett, Pro Vice Chancellor Monash Gippsland will also be invited to make a presentation to council outlining the prospectus for the Gippsland Campus as part of the considerations.
Tuesday night’s decision follows a considerable period of community consultation on the Latrobe Performing Arts and Convention Centre Feasibility Study.
"A large number of submissions were lodged from the community in response to the feasibility study. Councillors were overwhelmed by the response and grateful to all of those people who had taken the time to provide invaluable input into this process," Cr O’Callaghan said.
"Deferring the decision until we have investigated potential for collaboration with Monash University, delays moving forward on development a new performing arts and convention centre.
As such, I look forward to the investigation being expedited in a speedy manner so the final decision can be made - one that serves the Latrobe community in the best possible way," Cr O’Callaghan said.
