Gippsland young athletes can apply for grants from Local Sporting Champions and Local Para Champions Programs by 30 April 2024
Darren Chester encouraging young athletes to apply for grants in the Local Sporting Champions and Local Para Champions programs, aiding participation in elite competitions.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester is encouraging young athletes in the region to take the opportunity to apply for the latest round of the Local Sporting Champions program and the Local Para Champions Program. Mr Chester said the grants programs have helped young people between the ages of 12-18 with costs associated with competing, coaching or officiating at a state, national or international championship.
The Local Sporting Champions program offers financial aid from $500-$750 to coaches, officials, and competitors aged 12-18 attending state, national, or international championships
Supporting young athletes
Mr Chester said, "Competing at a state, national or international level requires enormous amounts of dedication by young athletes and support from their families, with the main barrier for them reaching their potential being the costs of attending the high-level events. These programs are designed to help support young athlete's endeavours and help them reach their potential as a sportsperson."
The Local Para Champions program provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-24 participating in state, national or international championships for athletes with a disability. "This is a fantastic opportunity and I encourage all eligible young Gippslanders to apply and potentially receive some additional support to continue pursuing their sporting dreams," Mr Chester said.
Sporting grants available
The Local Sporting Champions provide grants of up to $750 to attend official state and national championship events, and international events as a member of an official Australian team. The Local Para Champions Program provides grants of $750-$1000 towards the costs of attending these championships.
Grant money may be spent on expenses including competition entry fees or levies, transport costs, accommodation, uniforms and sporting equipment. Applications for this round of both programs close on April 30, 2024. For more information and to apply, visit:
