Creative Gippsland Network discuss Tourism Maps

Latrobe City was represented by a diverse range of arts and tourism organisations including Moartz, the Traralgon and District Historical Society and the Jumbuk Bed and Breakfast in Yinnar South.

In a combined initiative, artists, gallery owners, and arts businesses from Latrobe City, Baw Baw Shire and South Gippsland Shire got together recently at the Lillico Glass Studio in Warragul to discuss creative tourism opportunities, particularly the new Cultural Tourism Maps currently being developed by the Creative Gippsland Network.

Latrobe City was represented by a diverse range of arts and tourism organisations including Moartz, the Traralgon and District Historical Society and the Jumbuk Bed and Breakfast in Yinnar South.

Latrobe City’s Arts Innovation Facilitator, Lynette Raven, said she was pleased to see the interaction between businesses representing the different Gippsland regions.

"The idea of breaking the invisible boundaries which separate the Gippsland regions in this way is a positive move toward a more sustainable arts industry in Gippsland. Many of the people here have not met each other before, so these events are an ideal networking opportunity," Ms Raven said.

Ms Raven added that the Cultural Tourism Maps for Latrobe City, Baw Baw Shire and the other Gippsland regions are to be launched as a suite of maps. The maps are currently being drafted and are scheduled for release at the Affordable Art Show at the Exhibition Buildings, Melbourne in mid April.

"The maps identify and highlight arts and tourism businesses in a region that complement each other. The aim is to present an interesting variety of destinations in a way that will engage and attract visitors for the area.

"Members of the Creative Gippsland Network in South Gippsland have already seen an increase in tourism as a result of the publication of that region’s map. We, in Latrobe City, are looking forward to the release of our map and will eagerly monitor the response to its publication," Ms Raven concluded.

The next Creative Gippsland meeting will be held on Tuesday 6 April at the home of the Faith and Fabric Art Group in the Uniting Church in Traralgon.
