New author to visit Sale Library

Wellington Shire Council and Book City Sale are pleased to bring Steven Murphy - author of the recently released book The Pyjama Boy - to the Sale library on Tuesday 29 March, for an inspiring presentation and book-signing session.

By Wellington Shire Council - 15th March 2005 - Back to News

The Pyjama Boy is a heart-wrenching tale of Steven’s journey growing-up in an environment of alcoholism and poverty, after he was abandoned by his mother and left in the care of his step-mother when his father was sent to prison. Despite his circumstances, Steven went on to realise his dream of becoming a police officer and uses his story as an inspirational example to help others.

His presentation – at Sale Library from 2:00pm to 3:00pm on 29 March - is an honest and open look at his childhood, his own brush with the law and how he worked hard to steer away from bad influences, never losing sight of his dream.

Senior Constable Murphy devotes his time to giving motivational talks to schools and community groups, encouraging youth to pursue their dreams. A percentage of the book’s sales will be donated to Anglicare’s youth programs which offer young people opportunities to enhance their personal and social development.

More information is available by telephoning Cathy Carr at Wellington’s Library Service on 1300 366 244.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Peter Gault: "This is a great opportunity for residents of all ages to find out more about one man’s remarkable journey through life. Authors like Steven Murphy are a great role model for young people and those who have come from difficult backgrounds. His story is truly inspirational. "
