Andrews must keep Hazelwood workers in the Latrobe ValleyA $17 million Hi-Tech Precinct for Morwell was announced by the Victorian Government today. By Portal Admin - 22nd November 2016 - Back to News The former Coalition government allocated $20 million for Federation Training, but this funding has not been spent since the Andrews Labor Government was elected.
Member for Morwell Russell Northe:
Hazelwood workers need real jobs to go to in their field when the power station closes and a hi-tech precinct will not create any opportunities for these people when they are left without jobs at the end of March.
Daniel Andrews has ignored the skyrocketing unemployment rate in the Latrobe Valley for two years and instead imposed $252 million in new taxes on energy generators that provide vital employment for our community.
Daniel Andrews has no plan to create the jobs that will keep these workers in the Latrobe Valley.
Shadow Minister for Skills, Training and Apprenticeships Steph Ryan:
Daniel Andrews' announcement is not going to create jobs for the people and businesses impacted by the closure of Hazelwood.
The former Coalition government allocated $20m to Federation Training which Steve Herbert has been sitting on for the past two years.
Federation Training has spent two years trying to access this funding to redevelop its Morwell campus. If Daniel Andrews cared about workers in the Latrobe Valley he would have done this years ago, not waited until months from Hazelwood’s closure.
Daniel Andrews is putting politics ahead of the people of the Latrobe Valley.
