Call for nominations for Senior of the YearLatrobe City is calling for nominations for the 2006 Senior Citizen of the Year award. By Latrobe City Council - 1st August 2006 - Back to News Latrobe Cit mayor, councillor Lisa Price said that the award would be presented during Seniors Week from 1 to 8 October.
"This prestigious award will recognise the contribution that the nominee has made to the community for voluntary work undertaken over the last year, or over a number of years.
"If you know someone over the age of 60, who lives in Latrobe City, and is making a valuable contribution to the community in a voluntary capacity, then nominate them for this award," Cr Price explained.
"I encourage residents of Latrobe City to get involved and nominate. It could be a friend, family member, community leader or colleague. There are many mature aged people who regularly and willingly make a positive contribution to all aspects of life in our municipality. Perhaps their work is undervalued, taken for granted or is not fully appreciated. It would be a nice gesture to make the nomination, and let the community at large know just how valuable their contribution is," Cr Price said.
"Now is the time to ensure that our many, hardworking, community-orientated seniors are appropriately recognised," Cr Price concluded.
If you would like to nominate an outstanding citizen, you can obtain a nomination form from one of Latrobe City’s service centres, or by visiting our website on www.latrobe.vic.gov.au or by telephoning council on 1300 367 700.
Nominations close on 31 August 2006.
