Wellington Shire Council is encouraging local community groups, organisations and schools to join hundreds and thousands of other Australians this Clean Up Australia Day by taking action to clean up our environment.

By Wellington Shire Council - 19th February 2004 - Back to News

Clean Up Australia Day is being held on Sunday 7 March. Complementing this there will be a Business Clean Up Day for employers and employees on Tuesday 2 March, and a Schools’ Clean Up Day on Friday 5 March geared at Wellington students.

Residents and groups who would like to participate should choose a park, beach, waterway, bushland or street that needs a clean up and register it through the Clean Up Australia Day website at www.cleanup.com.au

For those who do not have access to the internet or who would like help with identifying a suitable location, simply contact Wellington Shire Council’s Development Services Support Officer, Joanne Glendenning on 1300 366 244.

Said Wellington Shire Mayor John Jago "The council is pleased to provide its ongoing support to this very worthwhile initiative. It provides an ideal opportunity for everyone to put something positive back into the environment and increases awareness of the litter and rubbish issue.

"Rubbish is not just an eyesore, it can cause considerable environmental damage, killing vegetation as well as wildlife. This national effort is invaluable in drawing attention to the issue, and promises to be of real benefit to our natural environment."
