A community planting festival will be held at Rileys Bridge on the Cowwarr-Seaton Road beside the Thomson River from 9:30-12:30 am.

"We are inviting all members of the community to come along, it will be a great day out" said Penny Neumann, Environmental Planner at Wellington Shire Council.

"Up to 4,500 native trees and shrubs will be planted to provide habitat for native animals and help protect the water quality in the Thomson River"

"There will be a free BBQ lunch. We just ask that those wishing to participate wear sturdy footwear and a hat, and dress appropriately for the weather conditions on the day" said Miss Neumann.

Several local schools will be involved in tree planting at the site on Friday 28 July, Schools Tree Day.

"Tree Day shows children how easy it is to help the environment, while having fun at the same time" said Miss Neumann.

Last year more than 350,000 volunteers participated in National Tree Day, which is organised nationally each year by Planet Ark. The event has been running since 1996, and this year it is expected that the 10 millionth tree will be planted.

To register your attendance for the Community planting Festival please contact Kath at DPI Maffra on 5147 0800. For further information contact Wendy Hayne at Maffra and Districts Landcare Network on 5147 0852.
