Nippon Paper Representatives Visit LatrobeAn overseas delegation led by Mr Masatomo Nakamura, Chairman of Nippon Paper Group, which included representatives of Nippon Paper’s key customers, visited Latrobe City this week. By Latrobe City - 20th October 2010 - Back to News Latrobe City’s Mayor, Cr Kellie O’Callaghan officially welcomed Mr Nakamura and his delegation at an informal ceremony at the corporate headquarters in Morwell on Monday.
The delegation arrived in Latrobe City on Sunday, and was able to visit Japanese Day, an event which the company sponsors. The group also toured the Maryvale paper mill, getting to know the facility and being introduced to the various divisions within the organisation.
Latrobe City mayor, Cr Kellie O’Callaghan said the occasion marked the first time that such a high level delegation from the company has visited Australia.
"Council is very much looking forward to seeing the relationship between the Latrobe Valley’s largest employer, council and the wider community further develop," Cr O’Callaghan said.
Nippon Paper purchased the Maryvale Mill in 2008 and since that time, have completed benchmarking and other activities to lift the performance of the plant. In addition, safety at the Maryvale site has been improved with a reduction in lost time injuries.
The visit was a great opportunity for Nippon to meet with key stakeholders and gain an understanding of the Latrobe Valley," Cr O’Callaghan added.
