Grants are now available for clubs to boost safety at their facility. Read more.

The Community Safety Fund provided groups and sporting clubs with money to install safety equipment

Member for Morwell Russell Northe said the Community Safety Fund provided groups and sporting clubs with money to install safety equipment such as additional locks, vandal-proof lighting, alarms, fencing and gates and security screens.

"I’m encouraging local groups to apply for their share of this money that will enable them to ramp up security at their facility and improve safety within our community," Mr Northe said.

"Break-ins and damage by vandals presents a huge cost burden to small clubs and community organisations and often means that fundraising money needs to be spent on paying for repairs rather than purchasing new equipment."

Mr Northe said four local groups – Morwell Baseball Club, Hazelwood Cemetery Trust, Anglicare Victoria and Cooinda Hill Association - shared in more than $25,000 in the previous grant round and used their funding to install security roller doors, fencing and lighting.

"These grants, established by the former Liberal-National Coalition Government, help community organisations to bolster security at their facilities to prevent damage and create a safer environment for their members and the wider community," Mr Northe said.

In addition to providing new security equipment, the grants can also be used for the following projects:

• Education and awareness initiatives that help prevent motor vehicle theft, personal property and residential theft and retail burglaries; and
• Small-scale improvements and upgrades in public spaces including parks and reserves and streetscapes to encourage more foot traffic.

Mr Northe said applications were open to community and sporting groups and councils until 4pm on Friday, 1 July.
