Latrobe City Council’s new face of learning and community living is nearing completion with finishing touches being applied to the new Moe Service Centre and Frank Bartlett Memorial Library facility before it opens its doors later this month.

Offering much more than Council’s traditional book lending and information services, Council expects the Latrobe Valley community to make this flexible space its own.

Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Michael Rossiter, said the facility would be a place to meet, relax, play and learn.

"But we’re hoping there will be surprises too as the community drives what it wants the library to be. Everyone in Latrobe City can make use of what we’re offering which extends far beyond book borrowing—book the commercial kitchen; use the XBox consoles; access the Wifi; use the community meeting rooms.

"Council is challenging the community to start thinking about the possibilities and create a dynamic space that is led and owned by the community.

"And when I say ‘community’ I’m not just talking about Moe residents, I’m talking about everyone in Latrobe City—all of us can enjoy and learn in the Moe Service Centre," Cr Rossiter said.

The Mayor is inviting residents to start a community group based on something they are passionate about.

"It could be a topic you want to learn more about or something you’ve already mastered and want to share with others.

"It could be a regular knitting group in a quiet nook, running a video game tournament in the games room, or taking turns with like-minded people demonstrating your favourite paleo recipe in the kitchen.

"It’s your space, so share your ideas with us," Cr Rossiter concluded.

More information on what the facility offers and how you can make the most of it will be available from service staff when it opens. And keep an eye on our website and social media pages for more updates about the opening.
