Temporary Pool Closure At Latrobe Leisure MorwellThe pool area at Latrobe Leisure Morwell (formerly the Morwell Leisure Centre) will be temporarily closed for repair work from 1.30pm on Saturday 22 September and will resume normal operating hours on Thursday 4 October 2007. By Latrobe City - 20th September 2007 - Back to News Latrobe City’s general manager city services, Peggy Stephenson, said the temporary closure will affect the main pool, toddlers’ pool, spa, sauna and family change-rooms.
"The temporary closure is necessary to allow repairs to be undertaken to a section of tiling on the floor of the main pool. Some tiling has come adrift requiring immediate attention to ensure the problem remains confined to a small area and doesn’t develop into a hazard," Ms Stevenson explained.
"To ensure the minimum number of pool users are inconvenienced, the temporary closure will take place during the school holidays when the ‘learn to swim’ program is in recess. Around eight-hundred participants are involved in the learn to swim program which is run in parallel with the school terms."
"User groups are aware of the closure and we have tried to meet their needs by offering alternative venues during the temporary closure," Ms Stevenson said.
Ms Stevenson said that the temporary pool closure also presented an opportunity to undertake modifications to the pool filtration system. "A fault that has been identified in its early stages, which unless rectified would eventually lead to pool water not being filtered to a satisfactory level, will be attended to. Rather than requiring a closure at a later stage to deal with the issue, the remedial works will be done at the same time as the tiling," Ms Stevenson said.
Ms Stevenson added that it is important to note that the gym, stadium, crèche and land fitness classes will still be open for business as per the normal hours of operation at Latrobe Leisure Morwell.
"For those patrons who would still like to access an indoor pool during the temporary closure period, we ask them to take the opportunity to visit Latrobe Leisure Moe Newborough or Latrobe Leisure Churchill where indoor pools will operate as normal," Ms Stevenson said.
The café at Latrobe Leisure Morwell will be operating at reduced hours from 9am to 12noon Monday to Friday. However, limited refreshments will be available from reception at all times.
