By Latrobe City - 19th June 2013 - Back to News In addition to the performance there will be two workshops for young, aspiring dancers to hone their skills in the company of this leading group of dancers.
Latrobe City Council’s coordinator performing arts and venues, Kathleen Roberts, said that the new program had been carefully constructed in dedication and in celebration of the human experience.
"There are four distinct sections in the show, each with a different feel and scope and all choreographed by Simon Hoy.
"On Air is a pure dance work inspired by our fundamental human interdependence with music by Claude Debussy. Focussed on Aspects Of Light, is based on a poem by Faye Jones, Separation with music by Dmitri Shostakovich.
"Submerged mirrors the endless possibilities of our lives and scope for development even when much that we need is no longer available, or may no longer exist, it is never too late to try and create a better tomorrow. Music is by Samuel Barber. Finally, Motion Transcend considers the notion of the purity of classical form with an emphasis on grace within each gesture and intricacies of each linking moment. Music by Frederic Chopin," Kathleen said.
"This selection of dances combines beautifully to create one spectacular and mesmerising show. For the pure dance lovers out there this is one not to be missed," Kathleen said.
"For those aspiring dancers in our community there is a wonderful opportunity to work with members of the Melbourne Ballet Company at two separate workshops.
"The first is a Fairy Ballet class for young dancers aged 3 to 6 years. It will run from 4pm to 4.45pm and children can come dressed as a fairy, princess, prince or ballerina. A Melbourne Ballet Company dancer will teach basic classical ballet positions, locomotion work, mime and improvisation. The cost is $10 per participant.
"For the more experienced dancers, aged 13 to 18 years, there will be a one hour full ballet class for intermediate level students. Students will then have the chance to learn the current repertoire from the Melbourne Ballet Company. The workshop will run from 5pm to 6pm at will cost $20 per participant.
"Bookings for both workshops are essential so call the box office to reserve your place," Ms Roberts concluded.
