New local websites ‘live’

Two new websites developed by Council’s Recreation and Community Strengthening Unit went ‘live’a fortnight ago, with one site dedicated to youth issues and the other to arts and recreation and community building.

"The sites are a ‘work in progress’ and we are looking forward to receiving feedback from the community to confirm we are meeting the identified needs," commented Ned Dennis, Council’s Community Strengthening Coordinator.

"Council’s Arts Advisory Committee listed development of a website as a priority in 2003 to disseminate information on local arts issues, events, support and development to the community. www.southgippslandalive.info will also provide a vehicle for groups to share their news within South Gippsland," added Ned." The other site, www.southgippslandyouth.com.au is targeted specifically to the younger members of our community and their interests.

Both sites are managed by the Community Strengthening Support Officer, Alycia Stivic, who is keen to encourage contributions from the community. These can be submitted electronically (alycias@sgsc.vic.gov.au) or posted to Council at Private Bag 4, Leongatha 3953 to Alycia’s attention.

The sites feature Event Calendars, workshops and a questionnaire facility that can allow direct response from people and groups from across South Gippsland. Alycia will be updating information on the sites on a regular basis, and will be constantly reviewing the effectiveness of these new communications tools.

The sites are linked to Council’s main website, and their design has been developed with significant input from community organisations, the South Gippsland Youth Council and Council’s Community Development Committee.

"The overall concept of these sites has been enthusiastically embraced by those involved and we would now like to encourage the rest of the community to check out them out to discover the amazing talent we have in the region and flag the sites as convenient places to find out what’s happening in the community," said Ned.
