Council looking to set up youth art group

Wellington Shire Council’s Gippsland Art Gallery.Sale is inviting young artists from around the shire to attend a special meeting on Wednesday 2 March to discuss the possibility of creating a young artists’ group in the area.

By Wellington Shire Council - 28th February 2005 - Back to News

The council will use the session to seek feedback from young artists on what they would like to see for the group. Options being considered include local workshops, exhibitions and ‘pop art’ youth events such as screening of art house films.

It is also hoped that the group will serve as a forum for young artists to discuss future career development and art education courses.

The meeting is being held at 4:00pm on 2 March at the art gallery in the council’s Civic Centre in Foster Street, Sale.

More information is available by telephoning Wellington Shire’s Youth Development Officer, David Roberts on 1300 366 244.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Peter Gault: "Art is an ever-evolving and rapidly expanding area and we are lucky to have such an active and talented young arts scene in the shire. There are many forms of art that young people can get into and appreciate and this new group will provide a great outlet for our young artists to expand and pursue their interests and careers.

"The council recognises the potential for young people to get involved and shape the future of art in Gippsland, and being able to provide opportunities which are accessible and cost effective, is a great step forward."
