Council to assist community build skillsWellington Shire Council is supporting a free course titled Skilling up to Shape the Future, to assist residents with a disability in the development of leadership and participation skills. By Wellington Shire Council - 7th February 2005 - Back to News This initiative will aid participants to develop valuable skills in areas including confidence, assertiveness, communication and negotiation, and assist them to become actively involved in community groups and committees. It will also be an invaluable resource to help local service providers, clubs and community organisations become more inclusive of people with a disability.
The free course is proudly supported by Wellington Shire Council and Rural Access and funded through a Disability Services Innovations Grant from the Department of Human Services. The three-day course will be delivered across Gippsland by Chisholm Institute of TAFE, and will be held in Sale one day per week for three consecutive weeks on 8, 15 and 22 March. Expressions of interest are open to anyone over 16 years of age.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Peter Gault: "The council provides full backing to this initiative which encourages inclusion across the community for residents of all abilities. "It’s a welcome addition to many other initiatives we are involved with, which are geared at supporting those with a disability, including the Companion Card program and the Wellington Access Policy & Action Plan."
