Christmas display competition to spread cheer for Christmas 2020 in Bass Coast
Competition aims to spread a bit of Christmas joy after what has been a challenging year.
Start getting your house or business ready for Bass Coast Shire Council's 2020 Christmas decoration competition. With entries opening on Monday, 16 November, all residents and businesses are invited to take part in the competition, which aims to spread a bit of Christmas joy, after what has been a challenging year.
Residential entrants have until Sunday, 13 December to submit their applications. Finalists will be announced on Thursday, 17 December
Join the competition
Bass Coast Council CEO Ali Wastie said it would be great to see all of Bass Coast shining brightly as part of the competition. "Decorate your house or business with lights, streamers, tinsel - anything you can to celebrate the upcoming festive season. It has been a hard year for everyone, so we made sure that all of the prizes for this competition were sourced locally, to help support our local business community." Ms Wastie said.
There is a residential and a business competition, with three winners chosen for each, one from each ward (Island, Western Port and Bunurong). The residential competition will be judged by Bass Coast Shire Councillors, while the business competition winners will be chosen by the community. Each of the six winners will receive a hamper, full of local produce and goodies.
To enter the competition, provide a photo of your display via the application form at Bass Coast Christmas page. Entries for the business competition need to be received by Sunday, 6 December. Public voting will be open from Thursday, 10 December to Thursday, 17 December. Winners of both competitions will be announced in the week starting Monday, 21 December.
Activating outdoor dining
In addition to this competition, council is currently activating outdoor dining areas, including parklets and extended footpath dining across the municipality. "To support these and add some festive cheer, there will be additional Christmas decorations installed in Cowes, Wonthaggi and Inverloch this year, such as giant baubles, Christmas trees, flags and lights. We hope the outdoor activation areas and decorations will help brighten up our towns and community over the summer period." Ms Wastie said.
