Nippon Paper Representatives Visit LatrobeLatrobe City recently hosted representatives of the technical and engineering division of Nippon Paper By Latrobe City Council - 30th April 2009 - Back to News As they visited the area prior to moving here to take up their posts at the Maryvale paper plant.
Latrobe City’s Mayor, Cr Lisa Price welcomed Mr Mitsuhiro Sugino, Mr Kazuhiko Ando, Mr Kazuyasu Yamamoto and Mr Nobuyuki Fujisawa at an informal ceremony at the corporate headquarters.
Three of the engineers will make Latrobe City their home when they come back to Australia in a few months time to take on technical roles at Australian Paper. Each engineer was provided with a welcome pack, and spent some time meeting with council officers.
The engineers’ roles will be technical in nature as they begin the process of benchmarking between local and overseas mills.
The group spent four days in Latrobe City touring the paper mill, getting to know the facility and being introduced to the various divisions within the organisation.
Cr Price said that council is looking forward to seeing the further development of the relationship between the Latrobe Valley’s largest employer and the wider community.
Stephen Hawkins, Corporate and Government Affairs Manager from Australian Paper stated that the visit was a great opportunity for Nippon to meet with key stakeholders and gain an understanding of the Latrobe Valley.
"The new employees were impressed with their welcome and are looking forward to the local hospitality," Mr Hawkins said.
