Baw Baw Shire Council Announces New CEO

Baw Baw Shire Council last night resolved to appoint Mr Glenn Patterson as the new Shire Chief Executive Officer from next month.

In announcing the appointment, Mayor Cr Ruth McDonald said Council was pleased to find someone with high-level experience in both local government and the private sector.

"Mr Patterson will come to us with previous experience as a Chief Executive Officer in local government.

"He was CEO of Colac Otway Shire for four years before taking senior management positions in private enterprise," said Cr McDonald.

"The many years Mr Patterson has spent in local government, particularly in rural areas including Gippsland gives added depth to the experience we were looking for in a CEO for Baw Baw Shire.

"We also expect his private experience will add new dimensions to his approach to local government and assist with linkages with new business and development.

"Mr Patterson is also technically well qualified with post graduate qualifications in business and local government."

Cr McDonald said Mr Patterson would commence with Baw Baw Shire in January when Mr John Dyer, the current CEO, retires.

"The Shire is entering an exciting time with many new initiatives commencing next year. Finalising the third rail crossing for Warragul, implementing the Growth Management Strategy and the outworkings of the transit study will demand a lot of Council and its CEO.

"We are confident Mr Patterson has the background and capability to work with Councillors and the community in guiding the Shire through these significant challenges," said Cr McDonald.

Mr Patterson’s extensive local government experience includes terms with Colac Otway Shire as CEO, South Gippsland Shire as General Manager Corporate Services and Manager Finance & IT, and the Shire of Woorayl as Manager Corporate Services.
