Council To Review Planning And Development Strategy

At its meeting on Tuesday, East Gippsland Shire Council agreed to a review of the East Gippsland Planning and Development Strategy

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 27th October 2004 - Back to News

This is the Shire’s key strategic planning document.

The review follows the significant changes that have taken place in the Shire since the adoption of the strategy in 1997.

CEO Steve Kozlowski said the review was timely because many of the agencies that were partners to the original document have either ceased to exist or have changed roles.

"Some of the roles undertaken by Council have also changed and there is now a renewed focus on issues such as Economic and Tourism Development," he said.

"The environment in which we are operating today has also changed, and while the original plan was appropriate at the time, it is now time to revisit and review the strategic vision and objectives for the East Gippsland community."

Mr Kozlowski said the review will be completed in mid 2005 and the strategy document was intended to look quite different.

"It will be shorter and punchier with the aim of being an overarching document that guides the development of more detailed and specific policies and strategies," he said.

"In essence it will be for the articulation of the community’s aspirations for its own future."
