Mayor Encourages East Gippsland’s High AchieversEast Gippsland Mayor Harvey Bates is urging local residents, groups and communities to consider nominating for the 2004 Alcoa Regional Achievers Awards and Kleenheat Gas Community of the Year Award. By East Gippsland Shire Council - 22nd July 2004 - Back to News Cr Bates said the awards aimed to recognise the valuable contribution individuals and groups were making in their local community, especially in regional and rural Victoria.
"We have many high achieving people and groups in East Gippsland and I hope that quite a few of these will be nominated for the awards," Cr Bates said.
The awards feature five individual awards for regional achievers and winners will each receive a $1000 grant to assist their commitment to their field of endeavour plus a trophy.
Cr Bates said the Community of the Year Award would recognise a specific community project, group, organisation, town or local government initiative. The winner will receive a $2000 grant, a perpetual trophy to be held by the local government authority and a community plaque.
Entries close on August 20 and winners will be announced in October.
