Shocktober Campaign aims to help Save Lives in Regional Victoria
Ambulance Victoria are encouraging communities to learn CPR and how to use an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), everyday 18 Victorians suffer a cardiac arrest, this can happen to anyone anywhere at any time.
Member for Morwell Russell Northe has welcomed the opportunity to support Ambulance Victoria’s Shocktober campaign for the month of October.
Ambulance Victoria are encouraging communities to learn CPR and how to use an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), everyday 18 Victorians suffer a cardiac arrest, this can happen to anyone anywhere at any time.
"As part of the Shocktober campaign Ambulance Victoria want to help educate Victorians on the benefits of being able to use AEDs and perform CPR, chances of survival increase by 68 per cent if you can begin CPR and use an AED" said Mr Northe.
With more than 6500 AEDs locations registered across the state Ambulance Victoria and to mark Shocktober Ambulance Victoria are also donating 100 additional AEDs to rural and regional communities.
Today marks Restart a Heart Day a global initiative to raise awareness and educate communities about CPR and AEDS and I encourage communities to register their AED at https://registermyaed.ambulance.vic.gov.au/.
With many premises closed due to Covid-19, Ambulance Victoria are using Shocktober to encourage businesses, schools and other facilities to place their AEDs outside so they can be seen and used by the community.
"Knowing where AEDs are located is vital in being able to help save someone’s life, you can search for AED device locations in your area by heading to the register my AED website" Mr Northe said.
