Gippsland-wide kerbside organics tender has South Gippsland Shire Council and the five other six Councils working together
South Gippsland Shire Council is one of six Councils collaborating on a Gippsland-wide Kerbside Organics Tender facilitated by Resource Recovery Gippsland.
The six Gippsland Councils currently provide kerbside waste management to almost 136,000 households collecting around 100,000 tonnes of waste and recyclables across an area of 41,556 square km.
Valuing waste as a resource is not only important at an individual and household level but is a high priority for sustainability across the region
Collaborative solution of kerbside materials
The tender aims to deliver a collaborative solution for the management of kerbside materials, in order to deliver:
- Increased resource recovery and reduced landfill
- Cost effectiveness and economies of scale
- Emissions reduction
- Increased local employment and procurement opportunities
- Moving to a sustainable regional circular economy model
This costs approximately $7M per annum. Of this amount 35 - 45% is FOGO which can be utilised as a marketplace commodity.
The Organics Processing Tender is now open. To find out more, please visit resource recovery Gippsland. Tenders close Wednesday 8 September 2021. For more information, please contact Alison Taylor on 0409 879 910.
