Grand Prix Entertains Bass CoastThe Phillip Island Circuit is not the only place to enjoy the Grand Prix. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 2nd October 2007 - Back to News A range of entertainment will happen in Cowes across the weekend.
"There will be a band and family entertainment on Thursday evening, to welcome the Barry Sheene riders into Cowes," said Council’s Events Coordinator, Frank Angarane.
"On Friday, the licensed area in the Jetty Triangle will be operating. There will also be live entertainment, and the Superscreen will be set up in Thompson Avenue.
"On Saturday, there’ll be entertainment and a sausage sizzle in the Jetty Triangle from 11am onwards, to welcome the Cranbourne GP ride."
Saturday evening of Grand Prix weekend is traditionally a busy night in Cowes. This year is no exception.
"On Saturday night in the Triangle area, there will be rider interviews with some former legends of the track," confirmed Mr Angarane.
"That will be followed by interviews with riders from the support events.
"There will be bands playing until midnight. And the licensed area will operate until 1am."
All the activities in the Jetty Triangle will be relayed on the Supercreen.
For those not going to the Circuit for the big race on Sunday, there is still a way to get into the Grand Prix spirit.
"During the day on Sunday, the Superscreen will show race highlights from previous events," explained Mr Angarane.
"Then on Sunday evening the main race will be replayed, along with other footage highlighting Casey Stoner and the other Australian riders."
Precious water
Even though current water storage levels at Candowie are currently over 90 percent, using water as wisely as possible is still a priority.
"The Circuit will be using their own water supply where possible throughout the event," informed Mr Angarane.
"In fact, the measures that have been put in place are likely to be the template for ‘water wise’ events in the future."
