There’s love in the airWith Valentine’s Day fast approaching, the Latrobe Regional Airport has come up with some very different ideas to celebrate the most romantic day of the year. By Latrobe City Council - 6th February 2004 - Back to News While the Latrobe Regional Airport is well known as the home of Gippsland Aeronautics and the GA8 Airvan, and the Helimed 1 helicopter ambulance, the airport is also the home of a range of exciting recreational flying businesses, which have come together to offer love in the air for Valentine’s Day.
Airport General Manager, Andrew Stephens, said Aerial Skydives offered the ultimate adventure. "After a briefing showing you all aspects of your free fall skydive, you will be taken to 10,000 feet so the fun can begin. After a complete equipment check-out, you and your tandem instructor exit the aircraft for the ride of your life. Your skydive can be recorded by a professional aerial cameraperson as a comprehensive record of your adventure. All you need to do is to remember to smile!" Mr Stephens explained.
The Latrobe Valley Aero Club is also offering scenic flights of the Latrobe Valley and beyond. "Take the opportunity to view your community from the air. Take a romantic flight over Wilson’s Prom, the Gippsland Lakes, the 90 mile Beach or enjoy the lights of Melbourne from the air. Think about a group trip to Flinders Island to enjoy the fresh seafood, or talk to the Aero Club about learning to fly yourself," Mr Stephens said.
Mr Stephens said motorless flight could also be enjoyed for something different. "Aerial Extras offers instructional glider (not hang glider) flights. You will be aero towed and then your glider will be released from the tow plane and you will soar on natural thermal currents. A 20 minute flight costs $80, an extended flight with launch at 5,000 feet costs $160. Flights are weather dependent.
"Valentines Day is a special day for romance so why not treat your lover to some special adventure, excitement and something really different," Mr Stephens suggested.
Aerial Extras can be contacted through Michelle on 0407 839 238, The Latrobe Valley Aero Club on 5174 2591, and Aerial Skydives through Janiene, telephone 1800 674 276.
