Governor To Visit Bass CoastBass Coast will welcome the Governor of Victoria on 27 April as part of a four day regional tour. By Bass Coast - 20th April 2012 - Back to News The Honourable Alex Chernov AC QC and Mrs Elizabeth Chernov will spend 24 hours in the Shire and visit a number of local landmarks. The visit is in response to an invitation by the Member for Bass, the Hon Ken Smith MP.
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Veronica Dowman, said it was an honour to host a visit from the Governor. "This is the first visit by The Governor to our area. It is an opportunity to showcase the many things on offer in Bass Coast.
"I believe The Governor and Mrs Chernov will visit Wilsons Promontory National Park and the Murray Goulburn plant before arriving in our Shire," explained Cr Dowman.
"Our visit begins with a Civic Reception at the State Coal Mine with members of our community including Councillors, staff and representatives from local Rotary clubs and businesses.
"Our Bass Coast Young Leaders will also have a chance to officially meet The Governor and Mrs Chernov at the Civic Reception," continued Cr Dowman.
"This will be followed by a tour of the State Coal Mine, a visit to the Victorian Desalination Plant and trip along the Bunurong Coastal Drive. On Saturday, The Governor and Mrs Chernov will visit Churchill Island and the Grand Prix Circuit on Phillip Island, before travelling to Corinella for a community lunch."
The Governor’s party will then travel to Baw Baw shire. During the four day tour of South Gippsland, Bass Coast and Baw Baw shires, The Governor will meet with local community members, including those affected by bushfires and floods.
The last time Bass Coast hosted the Victorian Governor was in 2005, when John Landy AC MBE visited the Shire.
