By East Gippsland Shire Council - 23rd March 2006 - Back to News

To be known as Beaufort Park, the development will be constructed along the western side of the 280 hectare aerodrome site and provide around 30 fully serviced residential allotments.

The rear of each lot will have sealed taxiway access to the two main runways and no landing fees will apply.

It is also planned that sealed roads, water, sewerage, power, telephone and fencing will be included and lots will be a minimum size of 6000m2.

The sale of the lots will be restricted to genuine aircraft owner/pilots and titles will have restrictive covenants to ensure that the aviation integrity of the development is protected.

Shire CEO Steve Kozlowski said expresions of interest had been sought through advertisements in the the national general aviation media.

"The purpose has been to gauge the level of support their be in the broader aviation community in order to assist in the initial planning stage of the project and we have been greatly encouraged by the response," he said.

"To date we have received over 40 expressions of interest from all parts of Australia.

"The development will now be subject to a rezoning and planning permit process that will set out all the necessary parameters and conditions that will need to be met before a permit can be granted."

Mr Kozlowski said having an aircraft based within a short fliying distance to the Victorian snowfields and close to the Gippsland Lakes and our spectacular coastline had considerable appeal to the aviation community.

"Enquiries received also suggest that employment will be created through commecial business opportunities that will provide for aircraft service and maintenance as well as rental of existing and new hangar space available at the aerodrome."
