National medal honour

The National Medal is part of Australia's national honours system, and is awarded to "recognise long and diligent service by members of recognised government and voluntary organisations that risk their lives or safety to protect or assist the community in enforcement of law or in times of emergency or natural disaster." Volunteer lifesavers must have served a minimum of 30 patrol hours per year over 15 years to be eligible for the National Medal.

Life Saving Victoria CEO Cath Greaves commended Mr. King for his service to lifesaving. "The National Medal is a fitting honour to recognise our volunteer lifesavers who give their time and energy freely and generously to keep our community safe in the water. I congratulate Cameron on receiving the National Medal, and thank him for his incredible efforts to serve the Lakes Entrance Surf Life Saving Club and the lifesaving movement."
