Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has welcomed the completion of a new all-abilities access ramp at the Seaspray Surf Life Saving Club, improving accessibility for locals and visitors during the busy summer season. The project was delivered with support from the #lovegippsland Stronger Communities Grant Program and provides safe, easy access to the ocean-facing grassed area, a popular gathering space overlooking Ninety Mile Beach.

At the recent club championships, cousins and Seaspray Nippers Indi O’Shea (9), Ettie Curtis (10), Mia O’Shea (7) and Ted Curtis (8) proudly showed off the new installation. Their grandfather, Jeffrey Curtis, is already benefiting from the improved access and can now comfortably reach the lawn area to enjoy social and club events

Accessibility for all

Mr Chester said the ramp was already making a meaningful difference for the Seaspray community. "This is a fantastic outcome for Seaspray. The surf club grounds are a focal point for the community, hosting everything from live music and outdoor movie nights to yabby races, yoga classes, surf club training and school outdoor education programs. Until now, access to this space has been difficult for people with mobility challenges and parents with prams due to steps on both sides. The new ramp changes that."

The ramp was manufactured and installed by local Wurruk-based business Rotafab, showcasing regional expertise supporting regional projects. "It’s great to see local businesses involved in delivering community infrastructure. This project is another example of Gippsland capability backing Gippsland communities."

Mr Chester said improving accessibility was about far more than infrastructure. "Accessibility is about inclusion. It ensures public community spaces are welcoming and usable for everyone, regardless of age or mobility. This ramp means more people can participate, connect and enjoy everything the Seaspray Surf Life Saving Club has to offer," he said.
