Martin Cameron supports Tee Up for Mental Health Golf Day raising vital funds for Lifeline and Rotary

More than 150 golfers joined the Tee Up for Mental Health Golf Day in Traralgon, raising a record $30,000 for Lifeline Gippsland and Rotary's local mental health initiatives.

More than 150 golfers took to the greens of Traralgon recently in a wildly successful instalment of the annual Tee Up for Mental Health Golf Day. The Nationals' Member for Morwell, Martin Cameron, was proud to be part of the organising committee again for the event which raises vital funds for Lifeline Gippsland to fund its crisis telephone counselling services and for Rotary to support its local mental health projects.

Record funds raised

Mr Cameron said, "The volunteers who put this event together did an outstanding job of making sure everything runs smoothly on the day, which is no easy feat with a field of more than 150 players. The support for the event grows every year, and this year we raised a record-breaking $30,000 on the day."

"It was an honour to help handover the cheque to Lifeline Gippsland for $15,000 that will go a long way to providing critical mental health support for people in crisis. Likewise, Rotary does a power of work in our communities by donating to mental health initiatives and helping fund mental health first aid programs, so the rest of this money will be put straight back into the community," he said.

Supporting mental health

Mr Cameron added, "Our Rotarians selflessly do so much behind-the-scenes in the mental health space, especially for young people, which is critical given around 75 per cent of mental health issues start between 12-25 years of age."

"The event couldn't run without the backing of our local business community which generously provides sponsorship, prizes and in-kind support, so the organising committee extends its sincere thanks to those local businesses for their ongoing support. The Tee Up for Mental Health Golf Day seems to be going from strength to strength, so we're looking forward to doing it all again next year," Mr Cameron said.
