Wellington Local News: Gippsland Self-help Community ProgramsA new and innovative approach to counseling services By Scott Bennett - 5th November 2002 - Back to News Tell us your opinion See what others have said Self-help community psychiatry programs can be found throughout the Gippsland region amongst the various licensed and functioning psychiatry institutions, phone services, and community and individual based outreach programs established to assist those of us individuals tackling life’s unfortunate circumstances.
A new and innovative approach to these counseling services can be found at "Jennifer Bee, Needle work and Craft Supplies" in Sale. (www.jenniferbee.com.au) This needlework and embroidery business operates through the retail of needlework supplies and also on the many embroidery classes conducted, such as patchwork, stumpwork, and just about anything that can be derived from a single needle and thread.
It is these classes that offer its students the chance to not only create their very own embroidered masterpiece, but also to discuss with each other any personal issues that they may be finding hard to deal with on their own.
Jennifer Bee’s owner and proprietor, Jenny Bennett, along with her business partner, Jean Jazownik, says "our classes give our students the opportunity to explore their creative potential through their needlework projects, and also allows them to conduct group discussions on life’s little hiccups, without the formalities of an individual counseling session." It is this casual approach and friendly atmosphere established at Jennifer Bee that enables this business to operate on the close relationships that have been formed over it’s seven years of operation.
"Basically we are a needlework business conducting classes weekly, our students have formed friendly bonds with each other and are comfortable to discuss their own private issues and are willing to offer advice and support their fellow members. That is what takes place here, we don’t operate as a counseling service, we just have a group of fantastic people attending to listen, support, and discuss each others situations."
"Jennifer Bee, Needlework and Craft Supplies" has been likened to a group therapy service with the convenience of creating something extravagant. It offers daytime classes as well as in the evening and can be contacted on (51) 432 899 or alternatively at jenniferbee395@hotmail.com, or visit the website at www.jenniferbee.com.
