"Wonthaggi traders are staying open late so you can pick up those last minute gifts," said Mary Smith from the Wonthaggi Traders and Tourism Association. "There’ll also be entertainment and food available at Wishart Reserve."
The Wonthaggi Citizens Band will play at Wishart Reserve, where there will also be community singing. The Wonthaggi CFA will have their firetruck at the Reserve and will be running a sausage sizzle. Santa will also visit during the evening. The Bass Coast Agricultural Show Society will bring along animals for children to pat, as well as clowns to entertain the kids. Bring your bat and ball and we can have a community cricket match and enjoy some old fashioned entertainment while we wait for the sun to go down.
"Bring the whole family along for a fun evening with something for everyone." said Mary.
The evening is also a chance to take a tour of the Christmas light displays in the area. GBS Coach Tours and Bass Coast Shire Council will be providing free mini-buses that will be departing Wishart Reserve from dusk to tour the houses in the area that have Christmas light displays. Self-tour lists will also be available for those people that would prefer to drive themselves.
Almost thirty households across Bass Coast Shire have entered Council’s Christmas Lights competition. The Christmas Lights elves will be touring Bass Coast next week to judge which house has the best lights display.
"The response across the Shire has been tremendous with families, singles and kids decking out their homes for the competition," said Jenny Churchill, Arts and Leisure Coordinator at Bass Coast Shire Council.
"We’ve also received a great response from the general public wanting to know exactly which houses will be decorated so they can tour the Christmas lights displays," said Jenny.
"So, we’ve put together a list of houses that have been entered in the competition and the list is available from all Council’s Customer Service Centres, at the Wonthaggi Twilight Christmas Celebration on Friday 21 December or on our website," she explained.
Winners will be announced on Friday 21 December at the Wonthaggi Twilight Christmas Celebrations.

Winners will receive $500 worth of vouchers for first place, $250 worth of vouchers for second place and $150 worth of vouchers for third place. Two entries will receive $50 worth of vouchers as encouragement awards.
