Great Victorian Bike Ride Community Meeting In Yinnar

Bicycle Victoria and Latrobe City Council representatives will visit Yinnar on Tuesday 1 May 2007 to discuss opportunities being presented by this year’s Great Victorian Bike Ride which will take place in November.

With Yinnar recently announced as an official overnight stopover location, the community of Latrobe City is invited to attend the meeting to discuss opportunities that the event could provide to the community.

Latrobe City mayor Cr Tony Zimora said that this is a great opportunity to find out what the event means for our region and how community groups can benefit from the large influx of visitors expected in the region.

"Around 4000 riders are expected to converge on Yinnar as an overnight stay location on Tuesday 27 November. It is expected that the event will generate significant economic impact for the region, as it makes its way from Phillip Island to Buchan over a one-week period.

"Latrobe City has worked hard to secure this event for the municipality, and the previous overnight stopover in Glengarry in 2003 was a huge success, both socially and economically for the region. We have that experience under our belts now and we are looking forward to once again reaping maximum benefits from the Yinnar stopover.

"As such, we are committed to working closely with Bicycle Victoria and the Latrobe community to ensure these benefits are realised," Cr Zimora explained.

"The public meeting will provide a forum with which to plan, openly discuss and explore these opportunities and to identify where they might exist," Cr Zimora added.

The Great Victorian Bike Ride Latrobe community meeting will take place at the Yinnar Recreation Reserve on Tuesday 1 May from 7:30pm. All are welcome.
