Councillors and managers inspect headquarters project Latrobe City Councillors and corporate managers attended a site inspection at the new corporate headquarters construction site on Friday and were briefed on project progress to date by the site manager. By Latrobe City Council - 9th October 2003 - Back to News Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Graeme Middlemiss, said the first section of the floor slab on the building would be poured this week paving the way for the erection of structural components in the ensuing weeks.
"To date, while there has been a great deal of work undertaken, it has been low profile preliminary preparation, such as excavations undertaken for the foundation piers and the installation of in-ground services such as stormwater, sewer, water and fire services," Cr Middlemiss explained.
"Once the floor slab has been poured, the project will become quite visual to passers by, with the construction of the steel frame commencing shortly afterwards followed by the erection of the pre-cast concrete panels."
Councillor Middlemiss said the project was scheduled to be completed early in 2005. "By early 2004 the structure will be completed to the stage where the roof and windows are being completed, and we expect the internal fit-out to begin in February. This should be completed by the October-November period 2004 when the Council will commence construction of the car park area to the west of the building," Cr Middlemiss said.
"We expect to be delivering services from the new corporate headquarters in March 2005," Cr Middlemiss added.
Manager Asset and Infrastructure Strategy, Paul Henderson, said motorists and residents are being advised that part of Commercial Road Morwell adjacent to the corporate headquarters site will be closed to traffic on occasions until mid-February 2004 as cranes lift elements of the corporate headquarters into place.
This work will involve the temporary closure of Commercial Road to east-bound traffic between Hazelwood Road and the eastern end of the Corporate Headquarters site," he explained.
"We will try and minimize any inconvenience as much as possible and will identify alternative routes for motorists during these temporary closures," Mr Henderson said.
