Traralgon Pacing Cup returns at Warragul on February 19The Traralgon Pacing Cup, an event held from 1976 to 1995, will return to the local sporting calendar at Warragul on Sunday evening, February 19. By Warragul Harness Racing Club Inc. - 30th January 2006 - Back to News The Warragul Harness Racing Club is proud to reintroduce the Traralgon Pacing Cup at its twilight race meeting at Logan Park on Sunday, February 19.
First held in 1976, the Traralgon Pacing Cup was one of the district’s leading annual harness racing events until 1995, when the sport ceased at Traralgon.
However the Warragul club realises the need to further boost its profile in the Latrobe Valley, hence the reintroduction of the feature event.
Harness racing already receives high media promotion in the area courtesy of Win Television and radio station 1242 3GV. It is therefore appropriate that 3GV has joined forces with the club as naming rights sponsor for the 2006 Traralgon Pacing Cup.
"3GV is excited to support the Traralgon Cup and look forward to being involved in this prestigious event," Doug Bell, General Manager of Radio 3TR/3GV said.
"As a Gippsland based business, 3GV is keen to support various sporting events throughout this great part of Victoria."
"With the resurgence of harness racing throughout Victoria and the excellent facilities that Logan Park provides, it should be a great day out for our clients and indeed the general public."
Warragul Harness Racing Club Manager Kyle Galley welcomed 3GV as a sponsor.
"We thank 3GV for their continued promotion of harness racing, and we are delighted to have them on board as sponsor of the Traralgon Pacing Cup," Mr. Galley said.
"Several other Latrobe Valley businesses have also expressed interest in sponsoring the meeting, which hopefully can become an annual feature. It is our aim to encourage Latrobe Valley residents to attend the meeting, and hopefully we can encourage further year round interest in the sport in what really is an untapped market for our industry."
Mr. Bell said that the station is encouraging local residents to attend the meeting, with plenty of fun in store.
"We would encourage all Gippslanders to spend a fun day at the Warragul harness races, come up and grab some goodies from our promotional vehicles and generally enjoy the hospitality on offer," Mr. Bell said.
The Traralgon Pacing Cup carries $6000 in prizemoney plus a Cup to the connections of the winning horse. Two other new feature races are programmed for the day, namely the $8000 Warragul Guineas for three-year-olds, and a $6000 two-year-old event.
The meeting features eight local races from around 5:30 pm, with one race every 20 minutes. Other attractions include giveaways for lucky patrons, and a childrens playground. There is plenty of lawn area for families to relax, and meals and snack food will be available in the bistro. All races will be covered by the TAB, with full betting for patrons.
The Warragul Harness Racing Club is hopeful of a big attendance, particularly from Latrobe Valley residents who may not have been to a meeting before. The clubs Sunday meeting in December attracted 685 patrons, and given fine weather, the February meeting should also draw a big attendance.
