At their meeting this week Councillors were told that due to confirmation of an increase in East Gippsland Shire Council’s Roads to Recovery allocation and a budget adjustment, additional capital projects could be funded.

Shire CEO Steve Kozlowski said Council has been advised that it will receive an extra $700,000 annually from Roads to Recovery as well as full State Government funding for the upgrade of the Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust Reserve Road.

"Budgeted figures for two other projects have also been revised downwards and as a result freed up additional funds," he said.

Councillors agreed to allocate the additional capital funding to the following projects under "Roads to Recovery":

Footpath Easton Street Omeo (Hospital access) $ 40,000
Moilun Creek Bridge Repairs Fernbank-Glenaladale Road $120,000
Grays Creek No 2 bridge, Cassilis Rd. Replace with culvert $160,000
Rehabilitate Bens Crossing bridge, Cassilis Rd $ 50,000
McCulloch Street reconstruction - additional funds $150,000

Other Projects in the General Program to receive funding include:

Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust Reserve Road Upgrade $167,750

Mayor Cr Jane Rowe said that Councillors were pleased with the additional funding.

"It means that a further number of key capital projects of benefit to many areas across the Shire could now be implemented in 2005/06," she said.
