Member for Morwell Russell Northe said the Boolarra Memorial Park will receive $6,200 and the Traralgon War Memorial will receive $875 as part of the latest funding from the Restoring Community War Memorial Grants program.

"As our recent local ANZAC Day services have shown, places like the Traralgon War Memorial play an important role in remembering the stories of our local service men and women" Mr Northe said.

"The Boolarra Memorial Park Gates Restoration Project involves the repair and restoration of the commemorative gates at the entrance to the Boolarra Memorial Park and the installation of a historically appropriate fence which is consistent with the original design.

President of the Boolarra Memorial Park Committee, John Cargill said repair of the commemorative gates at the entrance to the Boolarra Memorial Park and the installation of a historically appropriate fence will provide a whole new look for the Boolarra Memorial Park.

"On behalf of the Boolarra Memorial Park Committee we would like to thank the Victorian Coalition Government for providing us with this grant."

The Traralgon War Memorial project will involve work including the recasting of a WW1 bronze plaque on the Traralgon War Memorial to correct a misspelt name.

Minister Delahunty said 39 projects with a grant value of more than $240,000 had now been funded from this program during 2012-13.

"Our war memorials capture an important part of our nation’s war history and help ensure that communities remember and honour the service and sacrifice of our veterans," Mr Delahunty said.

"At times of commemoration, such as ANZAC Day, memorials are important gathering places for friends, families and the wider community to honour our veterans and to reflect on the impact of war.

"That’s why these grants are so important. They provide a timely boost for communities determined to keep memories and stories of their local veterans for future generations.

"We will continue to work with local governments, ex-service organisations and community groups to ensure the service and sacrifice of our veterans is never forgotten, especially in the lead up to the ANZAC Centenary commemorations," he said.

Restoring Community War Memorial Grants are available to councils, RSL clubs and community groups and facilities.
