Community invited to comment on Council PlanWellington Shire Council is keen to receive comments from the community about the content of its ‘draft’ Council Plan 2003-2006. By Wellington Shire Council - 2nd June 2003 - Back to News The plan, which has already had some community input, is due to be formally adopted by the Council at its next meeting on 17 June and will guide its direction for the next financial year and beyond.
Some of the key projects and initiatives included in the plan include:
- increasing community consultation on Council activities, projects and advocacy;
- continued lobbying for retention and expansion of the RAAF Base East Sale;
- development of a strategy for skate parks across the Shire;
- implementing a long-term strategy for management of the Council’s roads, bridges and buildings;
- pursuit of funding for major drainage schemes such as Yarram;
- development of halls, libraries and community centres in Heyfield, Stratford and Rosedale;
- development and promotion of Wellington as a tourist destination including commencement of the Port of Sale redevelopment.
From Tuesday 3 June a full copy of the ‘draft’ will be available from Wellington Shire libraries and the Council’s Customer Services Centres in Maffra, Sale and Yarram, as well as from the Council’s website www.wellington.vic.gov.au
Said Wellington’s Chief Executive Officer Lyndon Webb: "The Council Plan is a very significant document for shaping the direction the Shire follows over the coming years and so we are keen to give the community this opportunity to comment on the document before it is formally adopted by the Council."
The deadline for comments is 5pm, Wednesday 11 June. They should be directed to the Chief Executive Officer, Wellington Shire Council, PO Box 506, Sale, Vic 3850.
