Moe open for businessThe heart of Moe has been given a new lease of life and and old barrier between north and south Moe removed, following the opening of Stage 1 of the Moe Rail Precinct Revitalisation Project. By Portal Admin - 22nd September 2016 - Back to News Speaking in Moe, Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said the old railway station yards that used to divide the CBD into two halves had been transformed into an inviting gateway between the two.
"The new library, cafe, council area and plaza are expected to bring 90,000 into Moe's CBD each year," Minister Nash said.
"We expect this renewal in the heart of the CBD to spread as more visitors give local business the confidence to invest. When Government invests in a region, it gives business the confidence to invest. I aim to help build the kinds of communities our children and grandchildren either want to stay in or come back to, and a CBD a town can be proud of helps to build that kind of community."
Federal Member for McMillan Russell Broadbent said he was pleased to see the project delivered.
"The funding provided by the Liberal National Coalition recognises the commitment we have to the Latrobe Valley and to Gippsland as a whole," Mr Broadbent said.
Victorian Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said the precinct really opens up the area.
"It makes the most of Moe's shared community space and will be a wonderful draw card for new and investment and growth," Ms Shing said.
Mayor of Latrobe City Council Michael Rossiter said the Latrobe City Council contributed $3 million towards the development of the Moe Rail Precinct project.
"It is a community facility designed to provide civic services including access to the library and learning, maternal and child health, a community kitchen, a cafe and dining area, public meeting rooms and an inspiring roof garden. It is a municipal amenity for the 21st century. And we built it right here in Moe, in Latrobe City." Cr Rossiter said.
The Moe Rail Precinct Revitalisation Stage 1 project was a jointly funded project with the Coalition Government contributing $7.5 million, the Victorian Government $3.75 million and the Latrobe City Council $3 million.
